The Wright Square Suite

Jones Street Suites
1109 W. Jones Street, Savannah, GA 31401.

The layout of the Wright Square Suite has an intimate feel; comfy for a single and perfect for a couple.

From the polished hard wood floors to the high ceilings, the furnishings are thoughtful and appropriate to vintage Savannah.

Plenty of storage space, lush towels, and the spacious, comfy bed were among the thoughtful touches.
With a soft light from the windows, view sycamore trees and rooftop architecture of old Savannah.

The location of the Jones Street Suites is excellent for walking about in historic Savannah. From this ornate building among the squares, a visitor can get a genuine feel of life in the Hostess City. Everyone’s favorite parts of town are right outside your door, yet there is never a rushed hustle and bustle. A laid-back Southern style relaxes suite guests while inside or out and about. Enjoying River Street nightlife, or art museums and cafes, a guest of a Jones Street Suite can park once and explore on foot for days.

Savannah streets feel safe and secure, even for a single female guest; but as always, walking alone is never as safe as walking in pairs or a group.

Parking on Jones Street is easy, but watch the restriction signs for street sweeping. It’s a real plus that a guest can easily park in downtown Savannah; it’s not as frustrating here as it is in other popular destination places. Street parking is free on Saturday and Sunday.

Other than the Wright Square Suite, the rest of Jones Street Suites was occupied by a group of young people that clearly enjoyed having their privacy in their respective suites but still being together on the patio or balcony.
When we left the house early Saturday a charming couple from Florida wanted their picture taken in front of Mrs. Wilkes. We could detect a slight envy from them; that we were staying in a prime location while they had a boxy hotel room on a noisy street.

Our weekend experience at the Jones Street Suites

Our weekend experience proved that the Jones Street Suites provide a setting for a perfect getaway. Upon arrival we were able to park two cars right in front of the building on a Friday afternoon, and the cars remained parked until our departure Sunday.

After storing our gear in the large closets and drawers, we made a leisurely five minute walk over to Pinkie Master’s – a Savannah happy hour institution. Their famous bartender, Carol, was on duty, and she made us feel welcome while we talked with new friends and overheard conversations by local TV news reporters, art students, and Directors of prominent Georgia non-profits.

For a casual dinner we recommend the Firefly Café, Mellow Mushroom Pizza, or the Soho Cafe. A uniquely Savannah night out could be a leisurely walk to 700 Drayton for dinner, drinks at The Mansion by the Park, then a pedicab ride home.

When we returned to our suite the young people staying in the rest of the building were enjoying nightcaps on the balcony. Such a nice lively atmosphere! We didn’t make use of the courtyard space, ourselves, but any guest can use it.

On Saturday morning the suite was used as a telecommute work space and we set up an area in the kitchen for working online using our laptop computer.

Later we discovered that we were very close to Forsyth Park, which is a perfect place for a run. The park is about one mile in circumference and a perfect warm-up, then cool-down distance from our suite.

Saturday afternoon we enjoyed pizza at Mellow Mushroom and picked up a few supplies from a 7-11 on the walk back. With baseball on TV, we watched an afternoon thunderstorm rumble in and fade away, then we ended the day with a sunset cocktail on the back porch, appreciating the cooler temperatures brought by the rain. The Saturday night atmosphere at Gallery Espresso involved much people-watching, over a glass of white wine.

After a leisurely morning alternating betweeen the sofa the bed, we headed to Tybee Island for sun and a good breakfast. The Jones Street Suites provided a relaxing, interesting, and rewarding weekend!
